When it comes to the boundary issue...
Vote Elizabeth Schultz for Springfield District
Voices of Fairfax undertook an endorsement process because community members repeatedly asked who, based upon our research, would best represent their concerns.  This has been a time-consuming process, full of intense and respectful debate with input from residents throughout Fairfax County.  We appreciate the time candidates provided in responding to our questionnaire, meeting with us, participating in debates, and making themselves available at community events.  We encourage you to exercise your VOICE at the ballot box, and we look forward to working with the new School Board.

make her uniquely qualified.

✓   Against proposed boundary policy 8130.8
The proposed policy 8130.8 was almost voted in by the current school board without input from the community, and would have given the board power to move more children without public engagement and rezone students based on their socio-economic and/or racial characteristics.

Elizabeth is outspoken in her disapproval and opposition of 8130.8.  In our questionnaire she unequivocally states that she does not think racial and/or socio-economic diversity should influence how school boundaries are established or changed.
✓   Supports keeping families in their neighborhood school of choice
The current school board majority is interested in potentially rezoning your neighborhood out of your school of choice, ignoring the impact on your community and property values, in order to distribute the demographics across the county. The current board wanted to remove from the considerations for a boundary change the impact on neighborhoods and overall impact on families and students among other concerning changes.

Elizabeth has argued in many school board meetings that the goal of the board should be to bring the needed resources to the students at their neighborhood schools and not target and move kids around based their characteristics.
✓   Offers innovative short term and long term solutions for overcrowding
In our questionnaire, Elizabeth states that she has long advocated for transparency of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) methodology. She would like an audit made public of the past year projections to ascertain if the past capacity projections were accurate or inaccurate. Huge sums of taxpayer money are dedicated to renovations and new school buildings based on data that is not independently vetted.

She is also an advocate for innovation, such as open enrollment, pushing the board to consider the option at the September 12 Regular Meeting. She is a champion of innovation and a voice of reason with her data-based approaches to the CIP and boundary changes.
✓   Advocates for active, ongoing community input
Elizabeth’s website states that “every taxpayer in Fairfax County - whether they have children in the school system or not - has a stake in making our school system more efficient and effective….[and] parents are the primary educators of their children and should be supported by teachers, administrators and a transparent School Board.”

She has and will continue to advocate for active, community input.  She has often criticized the current board for not listening to the community on things like the renaming of Stuart/Justice HS and the boundary policy.  She’s been a strong advocate for everyone in the county and will continue to be a strong leader with Institutional knowledge for other board members.
✓   Elizabeth has 4 boys who are current or former FCPS students
Elizabeth is proud to be the mom of four boys who are either current students or graduates of FCPS. The older three are all Eagle Scouts.

Right now, Elizabeth is one of only two members of the school board, herself and Tom Wilson, who have children attending FCPS. We need to keep a parent like Elizabeth on the board to continue to represent current families.
✓   Elizabeth is an accomplished business professional
As a former Senior Manager of Contracts and Negotiation professional, she has served in the federal, nonprofit and private sectors for Fortune 200 companies and federal contractors in the areas of asset management, information technology and global education. She has also been an entrepreneur and small business owner/consultant.
