When it comes to the boundary issue...
Vote Anastasia Karloutsos for Dranesville
Voices of Fairfax undertook an endorsement process because community members repeatedly asked who, based upon our research, would best represent their concerns.  This has been a time-consuming process, full of intense and respectful debate with input from residents throughout Fairfax County.  We appreciate the time candidates provided in responding to our questionnaire, meeting with us, participating in debates, and making themselves available at community events.  We encourage you to exercise your VOICE at the ballot box, and we look forward to working with the new School Board.

✓   Against proposed boundary policy 8130.8
The proposed policy 8130.8 was almost voted in by the current school board without input from the community, and would have given the board power to move more children without public engagement and rezone students based on their socio-economic and/or racial characteristics.

Anastasia has
emphatically denounced the misuse of One Fairfax to “justify radical and unproven redistricting” as a solution for FCPS.
✓   Supports keeping families in their neighborhood school of choice
The current school board majority is interested in potentially rezoning your neighborhood out of your school of choice, ignoring the impact on your community and property values, in order to distribute the demographics across the county. The current board wanted to remove from the considerations for a boundary change the impact on neighborhoods and overall impact on families and students among other concerning changes.

Anastasia has demonstrated clear and consistent support for keeping the current neighborhood schools together (most specifically, neighborhoods currently zoned to Langley should stay at Langley).
✓   Offers innovative short term and long term solutions for overcrowding
Anastasia's desire to explore creative solutions (like magnet programs and open enrollment) to address overcrowding (at schools like McLean HS) is commended.   She indicated clear support for Janie Strauss’s overdue amendment to the CIP that would explore possible boundary adjustments as a way to relieve overcrowding at McLean HS and under-enrollment at Langley HS. She also advocated for creative solutions like open enrollment, a school bond to expand McLean’s physical space and a revision to the broken CIP process.  She further demonstrated an understanding of community needs by suggesting the elimination of the split-feeders at Colvin Run ES and Spring Hill ES and other creative solutions to address capacity challenges within Dranesville.
✓   Advocates for active, ongoing community input
In her answers to our questionnaire, Anastasia indicated a commitment to innovation and transparency.  Anastasia has taken it upon herself to reach out and meet with school principals early in the race.  She incorporates what she has learned from these visits in her remarks to constituents and encourages dialogue.  Anastasia also has two Herndon High School student interns working with her campaign.
✓   Anastasia has 4 children currently attending FCPS schools
Anastasia has four children currently attending FCPS schools (which is an important perspective).  Right now, only two members of the school board, Elizabeth Shultz and Tom Wilson, have children attending FCPS. We need another parent like Anastasia on the board to better represent current families.
